If You’re Going to Miss... Miss Big

If You’re Going to Miss... Miss Big

There is a quiet, paralyzing force that dictates far too many of our decisions: the fear of getting it wrong.

From the time we are young, we are conditioned to avoid mistakes. We are taught to color inside the lines, to aim for the safe bet, and to protect ourselves from the sting of failure. But over time, that self-preservation morphs into hesitation. We become so afraid of making a mistake that we start taking half-swings at life. We shrink our goals, second-guess our instincts, and lose the confidence required to take a real chance.

We try to fail quietly, hoping nobody notices.

But here is the hard truth: playing it safe doesn’t insulate you from missing. It just ensures that when you do miss, you didn’t even give yourself a fighting chance.

The Danger of the Half-Swing Think about the moments you regret the most. Rarely are they the times you went all-in, gave it everything you had, and came up short. Usually, the deepest regrets come from the times you held back. You stayed quiet when you should have spoken up. You took the comfortable path when you knew the rougher trail was where you needed to be. You hesitated.

Hesitation is the enemy of action. It stems from a desire to perfectly control the outcome, but the reality is that outcomes are never entirely in our control. The only thing you truly own is your effort, your intention, and your willingness to step into the arena.

Leave No Doubt "If you're going to miss, miss big" isn’t an excuse to be reckless. It is a directive to be bold.

It means that if you are going to commit to a decision—whether that’s a new career path, a major lifestyle change, or simply how you choose to parent your kids through a tough season—you commit completely. Don't tiptoe toward the finish line.

If you are going to strike out, don't do it with the bat on your shoulder watching the pitch go by. Go down swinging so hard that you fall over.

When you give yourself permission to miss big, you strip away the fear of looking foolish. You replace anxiety with audacity. You realize that a massive failure isn't the end of the world; it’s just feedback. You build the callus of resilience, proving to yourself that you can survive a huge miss, dust yourself off, and step right back up to the plate.

The Courage to Try At Home Tide, we believe in living intentionally, not perfectly. And living intentionally requires the courage to make a mess sometimes. It requires the understanding that a life well-lived is going to be littered with mistakes, miscalculations, and misses.

Stop letting the fear of a mistake keep your potential locked in a cage. Take the chance. Make the leap.

And if you’re going to miss... miss big.
